A few years after it came to an end, Bruce Campbell explained why Ash vs. Evil Dead was canceled after three seasons. Developed by franchise creator Sam Raimi, his brother Ivan and Tom Spezialy, the Starz series acted as a continuation of the original Evil Dead trilogy, picking up with Campbell's Ash 30 years after the events of Army of Darkness, in which he returned to the present and continued working at the S-Mart. Ash vs. Evil Dead saw the iconic horror protagonist now working at the Value Mart and accidentally unleashing the Deadite threat again and teams up with his coworkers Pablo and Kelly to save the world.
Alongside Campbell, the cast for Ash vs. Evil Dead included Ray Santiago as Pablo, Dana DeLorenzo as Kelly and Lucy Lawless as the mysterious Ruby. The horror series scored widespread critical acclaim across all three seasons for its recapturing of the tone and energy of the Evil Dead movies, blood-soaked thrills and the performances of its cast, especially Campbell in what would be his swan song as Ash. Despite the positive reviews, Ash vs. Evil Dead was cancelled after three seasons by Starz in 2018 and one of the stars behind the series is opening up about it ending.
