Following the high-profile court case between Amber Heard and Johnny Depp, the actress’s role in Aquaman 2 was thought to be in jeopardy. However, Heard still plays the role of Mera, despite not appearing in the recent teaser trailer.
It’s expected that Heard will have a limited role in Aquaman 2. This isn’t necessarily because of the controversy surrounding the actress, as sometimes more minor characters receive less screen time.
With Warner Bros. likely having the final say about Amber Heard’s involvement, it’s expected that it will have weighed up the pros and cons of keeping Heard involved versus recasting and reshoots.
Though she is still in the movie, Amber Heard has not been promoting Aquaman 2, in a similar way to how Ezra Miller wasn’t tasked with promoting The Flash 2. While they remained in the movie, they had limited involvement with marketing.
