Apple recently announced that it will be hosting its special iPhone 16 launch event on September 9, and by the look of the invite, we suspect that the products will revolve around Apple Intelligence. While we shared our expectations in a detailed post, a prominent analyst claimed that the company could introduce the new iPad mini 7 at its event as well.
Mark Gurman from Bloomberg claims that supplies of the current iPad mini 6 are running short at numerous Apple Stores, which indicates that the company could be working to launch its successor soon. We already know that Apple's iPhone launch events are also a stage for additional hardware updates. The company also announced the iPad mini 6 at its September event in 2021, which is an indication that the upgraded mini 7 could arrive as soon as next month.
Based on information derived from Gurman's tweet, Apple internally considers the iPad mini "constrained," which is an indication that an upgrade of the device might be right around the corner. The iPad mini 6 was launched three years ago, and it is showing signs of age, which means that it could use the latest processor, possibly the A18 Pro chip, which will also power the iPhone 16 Pro models. There is a reason why the company could incorporate the latest chip in the tablet, and it all boils down to the new AI features.
We have previously reported that Apple Intelligence could be the reason why the company could upgrade its entire product line with the latest chipsets, as older ones are not capable of handling the AI models. On the flip side, we are not sure how the company could position the entry-level iPad. We suspect that it could feature the same A17 Pro chip that powers the iPhone 15 Pro models.
