Faction reputation is essentially how liked you are by a certain group. This reputation can fluctuate throughout the course of the game. To check your current faction reputation, head to your journal; here, you will see your faction reputation displayed. Overall, the reputation that you have depends on orders that you complete for customers.
The more you complete orders for the French, the more your reputation for the faction increases. Unfortunately, this means that your reputation with the English will go down at the same time.
You will also have the opportunity to complete special orders for the factions. For example, you may be approached by a French or English soldier, asking you to make a few pieces of equipment. Accepting the order will cause your reputation to increase with the associated faction, and decrease with the other faction.
England and France do not lose reputation if you turn away an order. If you accept the order and then do not complete it, you will then lose reputation.
