Nintendo Indie World Showcase ended its main presentation with the reveal of an upcoming Soulslike, Another Crab's Treasure, which could solve the genre's biggest issue in that it looks to be more approachable than its contemporaries. This new game from indie developer Aggro Crab seems to subvert the genre's gothic atmosphere with a humorous, animated underwater adventure. Thanks to the studio's experimentation with the formula, Another Crab's Treasure could prove to be one of the more approachable Soulslikes when it releases on PC and Nintendo Switch in 2023.
Another Crab's Treasure features a hermit crab protagonist named Kril, whose shell has been taken from him. Armed with only a lobster fork, Kril must substitute his missing shell with different discarded objects to survive the battles ahead and scavenge enough treasure to repurchase his crustaceous home. While Another Crab's Treasure's action-adventure aspects and dodge roll-based combat closely resemble Elden Ring and other Souls games, the game differentiates in key areas that should help set it apart.

According to the developers' comments during the premiere trailer for Another Crab's Treasure, the gamehas an ambitious objective to deliver a challenging Soulslike experience while also remaining "approachable for new fans of the genre." From the gameplay shown in its reveal, Another Crab's Treasure appears to manage this not by decreasing the difficulty, but by establishing a uniquely charming setting and tone that contrasts with the customary bleakness of Soulslike games.
