There are many different villager types in Animal Crossing and almost all of them are based on real animals, but how many of them are not? On their island in New Horizons, a player is allowed to have up to 10 villagers inhabit homes and some make it their mission to group different kinds together, like having only cat villagers or the infamous ugly Animal Crossing villager island. The villagers can really make or break someone's experience in the game, and people have even gone as far as completely restarting their game in order to get rid of a villager they hated so the anticipation of going into the tent every time someone stops by is high.
With a total of 460 total villagers across the span of the different Animal Crossing games, it is understandable that not every one of them can be based on a real animal. Each villager has their own unique style and personality, but these can sometimes overlap and lose creativity. Many people have offered suggestions for new Animal Crossing villagers based on real animals and this could also open up the opportunity for new non-animal types to come into the game as well. This would also give them more villagers to assign personalities to and have more options to design homes for.
