Koofteh wasn't the only one surprised by this discovery, as others in the comments, such as Horizontal_Door and MisterPiggyWiggy both exclaimed that they were also unaware golden ladders existed until now.
Animal Crossing: New Horizons gives players a lot of tools for customizing their island. Some players have used this to create real masterpieces.
Golden ladders function the exact same as a plain ladder, and it appears to be purely aesthetic, rather than serving an extra purpose. Players would need to be near a cliff on either their own island or an island from a Mystery Island Tour or Kapp'n's boat tour to place a ladder set-up kit, using it to reach a higher level of the island or descend to a lower one.
Fourth-tier cliffs are deemed too dangerous to place ladders on, as a message will be displayed telling players they can't climb any higher.
There are four main ladder set-up kits in. Aside from the default wooden one and the aforementioned golden ladder, players can unlock and craft an iron ladder that looks like iron steps bolted into the wall or cliff, or a vine ladder, which looks like several wooden beams held together by two vines. These ladder kits can't be bought as they must be crafted, butthey can be sold for anywhere between 1,940 and 10,720 Bells, depending on the material, and each has unlimited durability.
While the difference in ladders appears to be a cosmetic choice, it's always fun when players discover a feature
