After months of lying to fans and hiding in plain sight, Andrew Garfield returned to play the role of the web-slinging hero in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Ever since the film premiered, fans have been asking Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios to complete his The Amazing Spider-Man trilogy. However, Garfield has now stated that he doesn’t plan to return as Spider-Man anytime soon.
Garfield was one of three Spider-Men who appeared in Spider-Man: No Way Home, and he seems to have won the hearts of fans of the franchise around the world once again. Fans have been urging the studios and running social media campaigns to support Garfield's return as Spider-Man. However, the actor doesn’t seem too hopeful that he will be wearing the suit again.
Spider-Man: No Way Home In The Running For Recognition At The Oscars
While he attended the recently held 28th annual Screen Actors Guild Awards, Garfield was asked by Variety about his potential return. As soon as he declined, he realized that he would be referred to as a liar by everyone for the “rest of [his] life.” He joked that he was “the boy who cried wolf.” Garfield was referring to lying multiple times about his involvement in Spider-Man: No Way Home. Any time he was asked in an interview leading up to the film’s premiere about his return, he blatantly lied about it, and later claimed to have enjoyed it at some point in one of his past interviews.
Garfield's latest remark about not returning as Spider-Man has left many fans who were rooting for The Amazing Spider-Man 3 to be produced feeling disappointed. The Marvel Cinematic Universe's Tom Holland has also supported the idea of a third standalone film for Garfield's Spidey. However, it doesn’t seem like the studio has any plans for it,
