AMD has announced that its FidelityFX Super Resolution (FSR) upscaling tech is coming to Xbox.
In a blog post, the company said the latest version of the framerate-boosting tech, FSR 2.0, is set to be made available for Xbox game developers to use in their titles.
“Though for gamers, we do not have a timeline today of when you can expect to see any Xbox games with FSR 2.0,” it added.
FSR is AMD’s rival to Nvidia‘s much-hyped DLSS technology, which uses AI to upscale the resolution of PC games, effectively allowing players to achieve higher graphical settings and better frame rates from their systems. Unlike DLSS, FSR does not use machine learning in its upscaling algorithm.
Following its launch in June 2021, AMD said FSR has become the fastest adopted software technology in the company’s history. It’s currently supported by over 90 game companies and is available in 61 games and 20 upcoming titles.
FSR 2.0 was announced last week ahead of its launch in the second quarter of the year.
“FSR 2.0 is our next-level temporal upscaling technology with incredible image quality,” AMD said. “It has been built by AMD from the ground up to deliver similar or better than native image quality and is designed to help boost framerates in supported games”.
The PC version of Deathloop will be the first game to include FSR 2.0. The tech will also be available in Forspoken when Square Enix’s recently delayed game is released in October 2022.
