A first-look image from the set of Amazon's live-action Fallout TV series has been revealed, and it shows a prominent location from the games. Developed by Westworld creators Lisa Joy and Jonathan Nolan, the upcoming Fallout show adapts the video game franchise of the same name from Interplay Entertainment and Bethesda Game Studios. The story of the series, much like the games, is set in a post-apocalypse and depicts the aftermath of a nuclear war in that takes place in 2077, destroying the peaceful world envisioned in the 1940s. The series is set to feature an ensemble cast that includes Walton Goggins (The Hateful Eight), Ella Purnell (Yellowjackets), Xelia Mendes-Jones, Aaron Moten, and Twin Peaks star Kyle MacLachlan.
The Fallout video games consist of four parts, with 2015's Fallout 4 being the most recent. The franchise has also spawned multiple spinoffs, including 2010's Fallout: New Vegas and 2018's Fallout 76. Throughout Fallout's successful run, the stories within the game are set in the 21st-23rd centuries and feature a backdrop that combines retro-futuristic elements with a wasteland setting reminiscent of the Mad Max films. This combination has proved to be a triumphant formula for the Fallout games, and from the looks of it, it seems that the Amazon series will be following the same path.
