Warning! Spoilers for Wastelanders: Black Widow #1 ahead!
While Andrew Garfield has recently received a ton of praise for his portrayal of Spider-Manin the Marvel Cinematic Universe film Spider-Man: No Way Home, fans maintain that Garfield’s own Amazing Spider-Manfranchise left a lot to be desired. One of the issues raised upon the release of the first Amazing Spider-Manfilm was the ending, which left most fans feeling disappointed. However, Marvel Comics finally made The Amazing Spider-Man’s awful ending cool in the barren wastelands of Marvel’s darkest future.
In Wastelanders: Black Widow#1 by Steven S. DeKnight and Well-Bee, fans are thrown into the desolate future first introduced in the Marvel Comics series Old Man Logan. In this issue, the dark future is shown through the eyes of Yelena Belova who has taken up the mantle of Black Widow after her sister, Natasha, died by the hands of Baron Zemo. When Yelena embarks on a mission to extract a scientist being held prisoner by a powered-up version of the Lizard, fans get to see how Marvel has managed to make the ending of The Amazing Spider-Mancool.

The Lizard has now become known as the Lizard King after taking over a huge area of land in Florida and establishing his domain there, and he has taken Black Widow’s scientist ally prisoner. When Black Widow infiltrates the Lizard’s kingdom, she notices that every resident of the hellish domain has been mutated and transformed into lizard people. Wastelanders: Black Widowshows what happens when the Lizard is finally successful in his evil plan to turn people into lizards just as he had done to himself.
