Altair: A Record of Battles is a historical fantasy set in the war-impending homeland of protagonist Tughril Mahmut, the country's youngest leader in its military forces. Tughril is a pasha under the Türkiye Devleti's council, made up of warmongers and pacifists. There is a division between these two groups, which motivates Tughril to desperately keep the peace. Amidst the politics, friends, and enemies of his homeland, Turghil will do anything to ensure that war does not break out — and figure out what to do if it does.
Kotono Katō, the author and artist of the manga, first published the series in 2007 in Monthly Shonen Sirius magazine. The manga's success spawned a variety of related projects. In 2012, Monthly Shonen Sirius's website published Shōkoku no!, a four-panel side story. A spinoff, Altair of the Tiny Nation, was also published by Monthly Shonen Sirius in 2012 by a different author, Shiina Soga. In 2017, Altair: A Record of Battles was adapted into an anime by Studio MAPPA and was made available for streaming on Amazon Prime Video's now-defunct Anime Strike Channel. After a fifteen-year run, the final arc of the manga will be published later this month.
