Stars of the K-drama zombie show All of Us Are Dead compare their monsters to those on The Walking Dead. George Romero’s classic Night of the Living Dead introduced the idea of slow-moving but relentlessly bloodthirsty undead zombies to the movie world back in 1968. But later generations put their own spin on the zombie by giving them more ferocity and speed.
The fast vs. slow zombie debate of course rages to this day among fans of the horror genre. The classic Romero-esque slow zombie obviously remains part of the picture thanks to properties like The Walking Dead and its spinoffs, as well as movies like Shaun of the Dead. But the fast zombie has become increasingly popular in modern movies, starting with 1986’s Romero knock-off Return of the Living Dead and escalating through films like 28 Days Later, Zack Snyder’s Dawn of the Dead remake and the recent feverish Korean horror film Train to Busan.

Netflix’s new zombie show All of Us Are Dead indeed keeps alive this undead tradition in its own unique way, putting a coming-of-age spin on the genre while providing plenty of horror thrills as well. Speaking to Cosmopolitan, series stars Cho Yi-hyun and Park Solomon talked about the new show’s fast zombies and how they differ from the more traditional undead featured on The Walking Dead. Cho weighed in:
“Koreans have the DNA of 'quick, fast, busy, busy, modern society'. That's why even zombies are fast fast. For example, the zombie [from] The Walking Dead creates tension in its slow movements, while the K-zombies are so fast that there is no room for boredom.”
Park hyped the show’s zombies even more, saying “Our zombies are probably the fastest and most dynamic of the K-Zombies
