Sam Richardson, star of Apple TV+’s The Afterparty, compares his experiences on-set to Leonardo DiCaprio’s experience filming The Revenant. The murder-mystery comedy show, created by Christopher Miller of The Lego Movie fame, sees each episode take the perspective of a different character as they tell their versions of what happened at their high school reunion's afterparty. Starring alongside Richardson is Tiffany Haddish, Ben Schwartz, Jamie Demetriou, Dave Franco, and Zoë Chao, among others.
The Revenant, meanwhile, is a 2015 film directed by Alejandro G. Iñárritu that received international press attention for the rigorous shoot that its cast and crew, and specifically its lead actor, had to endure. DiCaprio, who starred as the frontiersman Hugh Glass, went to extreme lengths to bring the role to life, including eating raw bison liver, sleeping in an animal carcass, dunking himself in frozen rivers, and filming the famous bear-attack scene. The acclaimed actor finally took home an Oscar for the part after multiple unsuccessful nominations, with the win surviving in popular culture as the hardest an actor has had to work for the coveted golden statuette.

Now, in an interview on the The Late Late Show with James Corden, Richardson compares his experiences on The Afterparty to what DiCaprio had to go through, labelling it as “my Revenant.” He outlines how he had to go through grueling shoots every day, which included getting “kicked into a pool of water” and acting as a human “shotski,” in which shot glasses are laid out on a ski to allow several people to drink from it at once.
