Since Alien: The Role-Playing Game was released in 2019, it’s become a fan favorite for expanding the iconic film series — and on Thursday, publisher Free League Publishing announced it’ll use Kickstarter to launch a second edition of the tabletop role-playing game.
Opening this fall, the Kickstarter campaign will raise money to fund the creation of the Alien: The RPG Second Edition starter set, which will include an updated ruleset along with new art and content, all of which will be backwards compatible with the original game. The starter set will also come with thematic dice and the expected extras like character sheets and reference cards.
One exciting addition to the starter set for players who already enjoy the original tabletop game comes in an expanded refresh on the Hope’s Last Day scenario.
Kickstarter backers will also have the chance to snag the new cinematic scenario box set called Rapture Protocol, which Free League said in a news release will “return to the roots of the ALIEN franchise” with a narrative that sends a small resupply crew unknowingly into a “deadly conflict.” The cinematic box set comes with miniatures, too.
The new set is totally redesigned, including new artwork with spooky scenes that capture the vibe of the original film as well as the worlds players have created while playing the tabletop game for the last five years.
There isn’t a release date for the new materials yet.
