In an interview, Adam Sandler confirmed he will again be working with Josh and Benny Safdie on an upcoming movie. Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Sandler shared no details beyond this basic information.
«They're working hard on it,» Sandler said. «Their work ethic is bananas. They're always working, always writing, always thinking. I don't know what I can tell you, but it's going to be very exciting. It's different. But I don't want them to ever say, 'What the hell did you tell him that for?' so I'll just let them talk [about it].»
It's encouraging, though not quite completely unexpected news. After all, Sandler garnered some of the best reviews of his career (sorry, Hubie Halloween) for his performance in Uncut Gems, the 2019 crime-thriller dark comedy movie featuring the comic actor as Howard Ratner, a tragic NYC jeweler and compulsive gambler.
Awards are one thing, but in the long run perhaps Uncut Gems will be better remembered for its many, many memes. Relatedly, in happier times for Netflix, in July 2020 streaming service made a four-minute supercut of every time Ratner drops an f-bomb--560 in total. This is how Sandler wins.
Only very vaguely relevant here--Netflix will be getting the long-awaited Sandman adaptation of Neil Gaiman's runaway successful comic sometime in 2022.
