Former 90 Day Fiancé cast member Geoffrey Paschel filed a motion for a new trial after being sentenced to 18 years in prison without parole. TLC viewers may remember the 44-year-old reality star from his appearance in 90 Day Fiancé: Before the 90 Days season 4 with his 33-year-old partner, Varya Malina. The couple found each other online, and after chatting for a while, Geoffrey flew to Russia to meet Varya in person. Initially, many viewers liked this good-looking couple's storyline, but they soon learned about Geoffrey's criminal record. After fans demanded TLC fire the Knoxville resident from the show, he was uninvited from the Before the 90 Days season 4 Tell-All.
Although the network terminated Geoffrey's contract, he was able to maintain his stardom on Instagram for a long time. But he finally lost most of his loyal supporters after he was found guilty of assaulting and kidnapping one of his former partners. Most fans were ecstatic when the 90 Day Fiancé alum was finally sentenced to 18 years in prison in February.

Geoffrey and his defense attorney, Greg Isaacs, have filed a motion for a new trial. Ahead of the hearing for a new trial, Greg talked to Court TV and expressed that there are many viable arguments for Geoffrey's case. One of the biggest reasons he is seeking a new trial is that the victim, Kristen Wilson Chapman, claimed during cross-examination that Geoffrey had been abusive toward her before the June 2019 incident. Greg objected to her testimony at the time and even urged the judge to declare a mistrial. Since the prosecution failed to notify the defense that they would introduce these alleged past claims, Greg thinks it was solid ground
