2K Sports has confirmed the majority of the matches set to appear in this year’s Showcase mode for WWE 2K24.
As in previous editions of the game, Showcase chooses the best matches from WWE history that fit a particular theme, and tasks the player with recreating them by carrying out certain moves while playing.
This year the theme for Showcase is Forty Years of WrestleMania, and will consist of 21 matches spanning the history of the event, right up to last year’s WrestleMania 39.
This is notably lengthier than the John Cena Showcase in WWE 2K23 (which featured 14 matches plus two bonus ones) and the Rey Mysterio Showcase in WWE 2K22 (which included 11 matches and one bonus one).
While five of this year’s Showcase matches have yet to be confirmed, 2K has now revealed 16 of the 21 matches set to appear in the mode. They are as follows:
One match that may yet possibly feature in Showcase mode is the first ever WrestleMania main event, in which Hulk Hogan and Mr T fought Roddy Piper and ‘Mr Wonderful’ Paul Orndorff.
While Orndorff hasn’t been in a WWE game since 1987, 2K recently revealed thatMuhammad Ali will be a playable fighter in WWE 2K24.
Ali was the special guest referee in that first WrestleMania main event, and given that special referee modes return this year, it makes it possible (though not certain) that his inclusion may relate to that match somehow.
The latest edition of the WWE 2K series will be released on March 8, and will be available on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, PS4, Xbox One and PC.
Players who pre-order any edition of the game will get the Nightmare Family Pack, which includes two alternate versions of Cody Rhodes (Undashing and Stardust), the 1976 version of Dusty Rhodes and ‘Superstar’ Billy Graham.
In a recent WWE 2K24 hands-on preview, we said the latest entry “appears to be business as usual”, which we felt was a positive sign given how well-received the previous two WWE 2K games have been.
