On Wednesday afternoon, Zomato and Swiggy, major food ordering apps, faced nationwide outage. Both the applications experienced technical difficulties and were unresponsive for almost an hour. According to some reports, the outage was caused by Amazon Web Services (AWS), a cloud-services platform, which runs both the apps. While Zomato and Swiggy both are operational now, the apps are still glitching and it appears that the issue has not been completely resolved. At the moment, while the front end of the applications are working, the payment gateway and order placement is not fully functional.
The outage came right at the onset of lunch hours, when many people order their food online. As both the major food delivery platforms went down, many users took to Twitter to complain about the issue. A user tweeted, “Placed an order from Domino’s Pizza through your app. Payment got deducted.I called Domino’s they said we haven’t received any such order yet. Neither the chat works nor the customer care is picking up the call”. Many others are also complaining about payment getting deducted but orders not being placed.
