Director Zack Snyder has given fans a first look at his next film, Rebel Moon. The filmmaker posted some early set photos to his personal social media account, teasing the Netflix original film.
Netflix's Rebel Moon was originally intended to be a Star Wars spinoff and is said to be heavily inspired by the films of Japanese director Akira Kurosawa, who in turn was also a huge inspiration for George Lucas. The plot synopsis alone bears many similarities to the Kurosawa classic Seven Samurai, in which a group of desperate villagers seek the help of a group of Samurai to defend their village from bandits.

Snyder posted three photos of the Netflix original film to his Twitter account along with the caption, «Day 1 #RebelMoon. It’s begun.» The first photo shows a black and white image of actor Djimon Hounsou in full costume as General Titus, looking menacingly into the camera. The other two photos appear to show the entrance to some kind of spaceship, along with crew members hard at work in the desert. While little is known about the new film, the official plot synopsis reads, «When a peaceful colony on the edge of the galaxy finds itself threatened by the armies of the tyrannical Regent Balisarius, they dispatch a young woman with a mysterious past to seek out warriors from neighboring planets to help them take a stand.»
Based on the plot description, it's more than likely that Hounsou will be playing a villain in the film, likely leading the armies of the dreaded Regent Balisarius.
