Showtime's Yellowjackets season 1 was terrific, and this means that Showtime has a chance to succeed with its latest acclaimed series where Lost failed. Regarded as one of 2021's best new shows, Yellowjackets is marked by gripping storytelling and suspense galore as it follows the lives of a high school soccer team after they become stranded in the North American wilderness. In a post-finale interview with Vulture, Yellowjackets creators Ashley Lyle and Bart Nickerson recently revealed that the series is planned to run for an estimated five seasons. This gives Showtime plenty of time to reach a point where it could rival Lost and, ideally, succeed where its precursor couldn’t.
The resemblance to Lost may or may not be obvious at first, but the ingredients are all there: castaway survivors of a plane crash, mysteries and supernatural elements, flash-forward storytelling, and fan theories make Yellowjackets a perfect contender for the recipe Lost cooked up so adeptly back in the day. However, things didn’t end too well for ABC’s hit series back in the day, and the ending of Lost is still a hotly debated topic within the cultural stratosphere.
