WWE 2K22 launched last month. A title video game playing wrestling fans were waiting for with bated breath as the future of WWE's games division very much depended on it. WWE 2K20 launched more than two years prior, a game that was received so poorly, 2K canceled WWE 2K21 in favor of trying to repair its damaged reputation. Mission accomplished it would seem as there has been almost no backlash and the game was not riddled with bugs like its predecessor at launch.
WWE 2K22 isn't perfect, of course, but the good news is 2K hasn't simply thrown it at us and run off to work on whatever's next. Hopefully a sign that its wrestling games will launch every other year in favor of annual releases as that has clearly worked in this instance. This week it rolled out update 1.09 for 2K22, the biggest patch so far and one that makes a variety of improvements to the game.

Perhaps the most significant changes are the ones that have been made to MyGM. Players can now add Tag Team Championships to their shows and matches, and also expand their match cards beyond three matches when playing on normal or hard difficulty. The addition of MyGM was one of the most anticipated parts of WWE 2K22, marking the first time a GM mode has been included in a WWE game since the SmackDown vs. Raw era. However, the mode is a little basic, so it's great to see 2K can and is adding elements to MyGM to make it more interesting.
The other big addition via the 1.09 patch is NXT 2.0. WWE's third brand underwent a very big revamp during 2K22's development. That meant by the time the game arrived, all of NXT's cosmetic elements, such as the arena and its logo, were already out of date.
