While the WWE is known in the gaming world for its long-running sports game franchise, most recently WWE 2k, the world leader in professional wrestling, is apparently pushing out a role-playing game. Pro wrestling and gaming might not seem like the most obvious match, but the two are more connected than one might think, as many famous wrestlers are self-proclaimed gamers. WWE star Stone Cold Steve Austin even settled a long-running The Legend of Zelda debate in a recent clip.
Many entries in the WWE 2K series have included a campaign mode, wherein players can customize their own wrestlers and guide them through the trials and tribulations that face rising stars in the industry. These career modes, admittedly, do have some RPG staples, including character creation, dialog options, and critical decision-making (though the ultimate importance of these decisions can be debated). Through these career modes, which can vary greatly between games, players get to experience the satisfaction of starting as a lowly novice and achieving greatness, all while enjoying much of the same gameplay as other game modes, although it doesn't receive the same level of post-launch support via WWE 2K DLC.

This career mode may be getting expanded upon, according to statements made by WWE's Stephanie McMahon in a recent earnings call. As reported by GameSpot, McMahon revealed that a staggering 80% of WWE fans consider themselves "gamers," noting that this should be capitalized upon by further investing in game development.
