Viewers have watched the show for a collective 1.15 billion hours since its release on May 27. However, 2021’s Squid Games still remains at the top position with 1.65 billion hours viewed. With the second volume just being launched, there is a possibility that the show will rake in more hours watched. This big achievement by Stranger Things is also important because it comes at a time when Netflix is struggling with loss of subscribers and changes to its existing subscription model.
The report comes from The Verge, who revealed that 301 million hours out of the total 1.15 billion came just the previous weekend after the second installment was released. The Stranger Things season 4 Volume 2 only had two episodes but its popularity is at an all time high as these two parts not only give conclusion to the season but also explain the backstory of Eleven, a pivotal character with psychic abilities. The final episode of the season was 2 hours 30 minutes long, putting some feature films to shame.
Stranger Things was in the top 10 shows watched in a whopping 93 countries this weekend, according to Netflix. The show has started boosting the hours viewed for the previous seasons of the show as well as all the four seasons were in the top 6 most watched shows for Netflix over the weekend.
