After rocking the market with the Vivo T1 5G a few weeks ago, Vivo has now launched another phone to cater to the entry-level segment. Called the Vivo Y15s, it costs Rs. 10,990 and takes on the likes of the Motorola Moto E40, Realme Narzo 20, and Redmi 9 Power. However, unlike the others in this segment that run a full-fledged version of Android 11, the Y15s runs on a watered-down Android 11 Go edition, upon which rests a version of custom FunTouch OS 11.1. Not a very powerful phone the, it seems.
It doesn’t get better though. Underneath that pretty body sits a MediaTek Helio P35 chipset – an entry-level chipset from 2018 that wasn’t powerful enough to begin with even in 2018. Vivo is using this four-year-old chipset on a phone that stands up against some fairly modern and certainly more capable phones from Motorola, Redmi and even Realme. And weirdly, Vivo pits the phone as one for the millennials who seek “cutting-edge” technologies.
Psst! That Helio P35 isn’t exactly cutting-edge, Vivo!
By now, you have a fair idea of this phone being an entry-level simple model. Hence, it offers a fairly standard 6.5-inch HD LCD display with a small waterdrop notch holding an 8MP selfie camera. The rear cameras consist of a 13MP main camera and a 2MP macro camera. The phone comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
Another highlight is the 5000mAh capacity battery but Vivo does not mention whether there is any kind of fast charging available on this one. The device sports a microUSB port for charging and data transfer. The phone is available in Mystic Blue and Wave Green colours.
Based on the specs sheet, the Vivo Y15s isn’t exactly a desirable smartphone for the price it sells. In fact, the Moto E40 selling at a much lower price of Rs. 9,999
