The Oppo Reno 8 series was recently introduced to the world and before it even completes half a year, rumours of the Oppo Reno 9 have started surfacing. In fact, a few spy shots of the Oppo Reno 9 have leaked already and it seems the changes are going to be minimal, at least on the outside. The standard variant could be looking more like the Oppo Reno 8 Pro and it might even get some serious firepower inside.
Based on the leaked images obtained from a tipster on Weibo, it seems that the Oppo Reno 9 will be largely inspired by the Oppo Reno 8 Pro. This isn't a bad thing considering that the Reno 8 Pro was a good looking phone in itself. The rear on this phone looks largely like the Reno 8 Pro, with its plateaued camera hump and two large camera lenses. The front of the phone looks largely the same as the Reno 8 Pro too, with the camera cutout now sitting in the center instead of the corner.
While the design of the Oppo Reno 9 looks largely unchanged, it is the innards of the Reno 9 Pro+ that have not gotten big upgrades. The Reno 9 Pro+ is now rumoured to get the powerful MediaTek Dimensity 8000 chipset, which is a degrade in comparison to the Dimensity 8100 chipset.
Other than the chipset, the Reno 9 Pro+ is also said to get the same 50MP Sony IMX766 sensor for the main camera. Nothing else has leaked about these phones so far.
What remains to be seen is whether the Reno 9 Pro+ gets any meaningful upgrades over the Reno 8 Pro, which is already a good smartphone for the price it sells. The Reno 9 series is expected to launch sometime in early 2023 and could be getting Oppo's ColorOS 13 based on Android 13. We have already seen Android 13 on the Oppo Find X5 Pro.
