The Zombie Plague event in Wrath of the Lich King Classic is over, meaning it is finally safe to log into World of Warcraft Classic again. Players discovered the infestation was ending less than a week after the historic World of Warcraft event began.
The Zombie Plague, also called the Scourge Infestation, is a notorious event from the Wrath of the Lich King Pre-Patch. During the event, players can be infected with a plague which turns them into a ghoul capable of attacking other players and NPCs, spreading the infection further and transforming Azeroth into a zombie-filled wasteland The event came to World of Warcraft Classic on September 6, and was set to run through September 13.

However, players discovered the Zombie Plague event in Wrath of the Lich King Classic seemed to be phased out on September 11. The next day, World of Warcraft Classic game developer Josh Greenfield confirmed the event was over. While he initially made a cheeky tweet about “modern Azerothian medicine” leading to a swift cure for the plague, a later tweet clarified the event’s ending was actually caused by an unexplained series of events, most likely due to 15-year-old code running on modernized servers.
This wasn’t the only surprise World of Warcraft Classic players experienced with the Wrath of the Lich King Classic Pre-Patch event. Just a few days prior, World of Warcraft Classic players discovered the Scourge Invasion phase of the Pre-Patch had begun a half week early, allowing players to farm exclusive rewards for a few extra days.
