World of Warcraft recently announced players would be able to apply Weapon Illusions to Artifact weapon appearances in the near future. Players can expect World of Warcraft to add this new customization option for players in an early patch after Dragonflight’s launch.
Weapon Illusions are cosmetic effects, like glowing flames or magic energy, players can collect and apply to their weapons via the Transmogrification system. Though these effects can be applied to most melee weapons, Artifacts, like those from Legion, cannot be modified with Weapon Illusions.

However, during a recent build of the Dragonflight beta, players noticed they were able to add Weapon Illusions to their Artifact weapon appearances. Surprised at its sudden appearance, they begged World of Warcraft to keep the new option for Artifacts. A later build removed this functionality, much to the dismay of fans. In a later blog post, World of Warcraft then confirmed the feature would be coming soon after Dragonflight launches, once the bugs were ironed out of the system.
Due to their nature as lore-heavy objects, the Artifacts from Legion are some of the more restricted cosmetic weapons players have collected over the years. Their appearances were only unlocked for transmog and specialization in Shadowlands, though they are still restricted by class. As these weapons are some of the most iconic and often-used transmog items in World of Warcraft, allowing Weapon Illusions with them is a huge win for players.
