Developers at the Paris-based studio Spiders, known for RPG GreedFall and revolutionary Soulslike Steelrising, have announced they will be going on strike in the coming days, starting 2nd September. A committee representing workers at the Nacon-owned studio has published an open letter alleging a litany of mismanagement, and it sounds like the upcoming Greedfall 2 is floundering.
The letter has been published in English and was shared by the French union STJV. Of Spiders' 95 staff, 44 signed the letter following a failed meeting with CEO Anne Devouassoux. The developers are demanding better transparency and worker representation, a simplification of the studio's structure, a bridging of the gender pay gap, better wages, remote work rights, and more, writing: «Today, it is with regret that we speak out publicly, in the hope that this will finally push management to act in the best interests of employees and the company.» The letter mentions that Greedfall 2 is currently «underwater», with the studio «accumulating burnouts» rapidly.
Staff are planning on picketing the Spiders' offices on September 2nd and 3rd, and incredibly, you can, too, with a dedicated Minecraft server set up for that specific purpose.
I'd buy that for $50!
Are you surprised to see Spiders employees calling out publisher Nacon and taking to the streets? If we've learned one thing from history, you should always try to keep Parisians happy, no matter the cost. Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
