Valentine’s Day is next Monday, and many people are hunting for the perfect gift and ideal card for their significant other. While one can always simply buy a card, there’s an appeal to giving a gift they made themselves.
One Wordle fan created a card inspired by the popular free-to-play word game. It shows the characteristic Wordle grid with the green “correct” boxes lit up in the shape of a heart and the flirtations pun, “Word-le you be mine?”

Reddit user Bbrz12 created the design using hdb, an iPhone app that lets users make and send custom virtual greeting cards. They shared their card on the Wordle subreddit, which saw a generally positive reception. However, one person facetiously pointed out that the shape wouldn’t be possible in the actual game, as Wordle players can’t keep guessing after finding the correct answer. Still, that kind of technicality doesn’t take away from the cool design and sweet gesture.
A Wordle-themed Valentine’s Day card is even more appropriate than one might expect. The popular word game actually began as a romantic gesture. Wordle’s creator, Josh Wardle, designed it as a gift for his wife, who is a fan of word puzzle games. That’s at least part of the reason that Wordle -- the real version of Wordle at least — is completely free-to-play with no monetization systems or psychological tactics.
Despite the game’s massive popularity, the Wordle subreddit isn’t the most active community on Reddit. It has a relatively modest 11,700 members, comparable to some of the more niche interest groups on the site.
