An extremely talented Wordle player has turned a 3D printer into a robot capable of solving the popular word game. Launched by creator Josh Wardle in October 2021, the web-based puzzle game has become extremely popular in recent months. While Wordle players can cheat a perfect score rather easily, few players can build a robot that solves the daily puzzle for them.
By marrying simple puzzle mechanics with a social solution, Wordle has quickly become a pop culture sensation. The word game gives players six chances to guess a five-letter word, with each failed guess revealing which letters are actually in the solution. This makes Wordle a game of trial and error, with scores based on how quickly players were able to reach the solution. The puzzle's daily solution is also the same for every single player, adding a social aspect to the game by allowing players to help each other or show off their score. A Wordle fail from Twitch streamer Pokimane, for example, shows how the game can be even more fun when played among others.

The Duet RepRap V3 printer was chosen for its user interface, with the RaspberryPi's image processing ability allowing the robot to read the Wordle page. The machine is able to recognize colors, allowing it to understand letter placement, and an in-depth source code lets it actually solve the daily Wordle challenge.
