Wonder Boy: The Dragon's Trap is the remake of the 1989 game Wonder Boy III: The Dragon's Trap, which was initially developed to be part of the Wonder Boy Series. As such, this game takes off where the last game, Wonder Boy in Monster Land, left off, with the protagonist defeating the Meka Dragon.

After defeating the dragon, our hero was cursed and turned into a monster, so he now must battle all the other dragons in the land to return to his human form. The trick here is that, after defeating other dragons in the game, you will change into a new form, forcing you to adapt to a whole new playstyle. Below you will find each form Wonder Boy can take and what you can do with them.
You will start this game in your human form; as such, you will have access to a full health bar, a sword, and a shield (perfect for auto-blocking). However, after solving the initial maze-like starting area and defeating the Meka Dragon, you will be stuck in the real first form of this game, the Lizard-Man.
The second time you will be able to play as the Hu-Man will be in the endgame after defeating the Vampire Dragon. One of the most significant advantages of this form is that the Hu-Man has the best stats of all the forms, even better than Lion-Man's.
As great as the Hu-Man form is, the amount of damage you deal will significantly vary from weapon to weapon.
This one also varies according to the shield you have equipped.
This game properly starts when you arrive at the village as the Lizard-Man. This form can't hold a shield so say goodbye to auto-blocking (you can still purchase the Mithril Shield at the Village shop for a nice +12 defense).
