We’ve all been eagerly awaiting the reveal of Wild Hearts, the collaboration between Koei Tecmo’s Omega Force and EA’s Originals publishing label, and today we finally get to see what these two have been up to.
As we were previously warned, Wild Hearts is set in a feudal Japanese setting, which is immediately apparent after the first few seconds of today’s reveal trailer. The player characters are all decked out in Samurai armor with a hint of Kabuki-styling fighting giant monsters named “Kemono.” Your weapons include a fiery bow, a katana that can transform into a serrated whip, and an unusually sharp umbrella.

But it’s your capacity for construction that truly makes Wild Hearts stand out. The player appears to be gifted some sort of magic box that can rapidly transform into several helpful siege implements ranging from towers to harpoons to giant swinging hammers or even a huge bomb. All of these seem very helpful when taking on a boar the size of a barn.
If the ability to rapidly construct things reminds you of Fortnite, fighting giant animals certainly reminds us of Capcom’s Monster Hunter franchise. Only instead of fighting dragons and mammoth lizards, Wild Hearts seems to pit players against oversized personifications of nature. The giant boar was covered in vines and branches, while the icy wolf was fought in a snowstorm. The trailer ends with an enormous tortoise-like creature the size and shape of a mountain.
