«Zeke The Plumber» is easily the creepiest episode of the cult kids' show Salute Your Shorts. It's the fate of most cinematic slasher or boogeymen or boogeywomen that they're never as frightening as their first appearance. Case in point, the Michael Myers seen in 1978's Halloween is the most terrifying, thanks to the combination of his featureless white mask, Nick Castle's eerie performance and his lack of motive. While there have been some great Halloween sequels, Michael will simply never be that scary again, thanks to overexposure and the fact it's now possible to buy Michael plush toys. The same goes for A Nightmare On Elm Street's Freddy.
This Wes Craven-created dream demon appeared as a shadowy tormentor in the original A Nightmare On Elm Street movie, and while he had some funny lines, he was far from the lovable prankster of later sequels. As the series progressed, audiences began to side with Freddy over his teen victims, resulting in the slasher getting more screen time and attention. This, of course, meant he was no longer scary by the time entries like A Nightmare On Elm Street 4: The Dream Master arrived. Despite the character being a despicable child killer in life and starring in a gory, R-rated series, he still had plenty of younger fans. This is why at the height of his popularity, there were Freddy Krueger dolls and even Freddy pajamas.
