Dying Light 2: Stay Human just released and it seems like the first game's protagonist, Kyle Crane, is nowhere to be found. While Dying Light 2 does mention him, he isn't a prominent character and the player is unable to meet him. There are many reasons why this is, with the main reason following the ending to Dying Light's original DLC, The Following.

While the events of Dying Light are not really needed to understand the order and timeline of Dying Light 2's story,it's still good to know the lore of the series, as the events of the first game are occasionally brought up.Kyle Crane was an agent working for the GRE, which is basically a fictional version of the WHO. He was sent to infiltrate the quarantined city of Harran, a fictional town that had been ravaged by a virus that turned the infected into flesh eating zombies who become more powerful at night. Simply known as Crane, he becomes attached to the survivors of Harran and eventually abandons his mission to help the GRE, who are revealed to have ulterior motives with the virus.

Dying Light 2 is set about 15 years after the Fall, the second outbreak of the THV, which caused the rapid collapse of society. The events of the Fall were depicted in Dying Light 2 prequel comic released by Techland. In this sequel, the player plays as Aiden Caldwell, a Pilgrim who is traveling the disease ridden world in search of his sister. Although Kyle Crane is not in Dying Light 2, there is mention of him by recurring characters like Spike.
