Indiana Jones 5 has been pushed back a lot over the years, but despite the delays, there is still plenty of reasons to remain optimistic for the movie. If Indiana Jones 5 hits its Jun 30, 2023 release date it will have been 14 years since Indy’s last adventure, Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull. George Lucas isn’t involved, and while Spielberg originally intended to direct, the team was unable to agree on how to end old Indy’s story. As the Indiana Jones 5's release date was periodically pushed back to 2020, and then to 2021, Spielberg stepped back into a producing role in order to give the series to a filmmaker with a fresh perspective on the character. The core team that made the Indiana Jones movies so successful at its peak was being eroded away, and as time ticked on (with the release date moving twice more, to 2022 and finally 2023) Ford wasn't getting any younger. There were concerns among some fans that the window of opportunity for Indiana Jones 5 to work had come and gone.
