New Zealand-based Studio MayDay has landed investment from Chinese tech and entertainment giant Tencent.

As reported by GamesIndustry.biz, the megacorp has made a "significant investment" that sees it acquiring a minority stake in the game developer. MayDay has also changed its name to RiffRaff Games and currently has two games in the works. One of these is a third-person stealth project that's set to release in 2022.

As if that wasn't enough, the firm has announced the hiring of Guy Blomberg, who previously worked as global content director for PAX at ReedPop.

"Tencent has been very supportive of our innovative roots and our desire to take creative risks," said RiffRaff CEO Joshua Boggs (pictured).

"The resources, experience and mentorship it has provided is allowing Riffraff Games to pursue things we didn't know could be within our grasp. It's a really exciting time for the studio."
