Epic Games Store recently pulled back the curtain on its new mystery game, confirming what fans had thought all along: it was a big AAA game. It’s a pretty good choice too, in the grand scheme of things, to give away Borderlands 3 right now. Tiny Tina’s Wonderlands, despite recent issues, has been well-received by fans, and those fans may be looking for more Borderlands content as they beat Wonderlands.
Borderlands 3 may not hold that same special place in many fans’ hearts as Borderlands 2, but then again, no game could. Handsome Jack is arguably one of the best antagonists in all of gaming, and that sets a high bar for any franchise to meet. Still, it’s a solid entry in the looter shooter franchise, and fans can revisit it/newcomers can try it for free. Those hoping for something on the same level for May 26 should temper expectations, however.

On Thursday, May 19, Epic Games Store released and confirmed its mystery game. Borderlands 3, as aforementioned, is a solid pick, but those who weren’t keen to return to it may be a little disappointed. That disappointment however may be allayed somewhat by the confirmation that May 26’s free title is also a mystery game.
While this is likely a good thing when it comes to the quality of the new Epic Games Store mystery game, it’s not likely to be as big as Borderlands 3. It certainly could be, as there is no hard science on this, but chances are it’ll be a popular, but smaller indie game.
