DC League of Super-Pets co-writer and director Jared Stern reveals why Dwayne Johnson was cast for the voice of Krypto. The upcoming animated film tells the story of Krypto, Superman's superpowered pet dog, as he works with a team of other super-pets to recover the members of the Justice League after they are kidnapped. The film, which is based on DC Comics' Legion of Super-Pets, is expected to release at the end of July.
Johnson's role in DC League of Super-Pets coincides with heavy promotion for his other role in the DCEU – that of Black Adam. Johnson most recently appeared at SDCC to promote his other highly-anticipated DC project, with the actor even donning the Black Adam costume as part of an elaborate presentation for guests. While Black Adam will see the actor star alongside Pierce Brosnan and Sarah Shahi, DC League of Super-Pets also features a standout cast, including Kevin Hart, Vanessa Bayer, Natasha Lyonne, John Krasinski, Diego Luna, Marc Maron, Kate McKinnon, and Keanu Reeves as the voice of Batman.

Stern says that it was quickly apparent that Johnson was exactly what they were looking for and that the part continued to evolve and become "better and more interesting" after the actor signed on.
