Charlotte Flair won't be on WWE television for the foreseeable future after Ronda Rousey injured her at WWE WrestleMania Backlash. The bout had been in the making since WrestleMania 35. The two have been at odds consistently over the last two, almost three, years, escalating when Rousey made a surprise return at the 2022 Royal Rumble, winning and then challenging Flair to a title match at WrestleMania 38. Flair tapped out during that contest, but the referee had been knocked unconscious during a previous spot. This allowed The Queen to steal a victory in what was considered a major upset on The Grandest Stage of Them All.
Rousey was not pleased about how that main event contest ended, so she challenged Flair to an «I Quit» match at Backlash. Flair didn't seem particularly enthused about the challenge, but Adam Pearce liked the idea, so he made the match official. For the weeks leading up to Backlash, Flair did just about anything she could to avoid getting physical with The Arm Collector, including trying to jump her with a kendo stick during the contract signing for the match. There was nowhere to hide at Backlash, however, and during that contest fans (finally) saw Flair get her comeuppance and then some. The duo battled all over the Dunkin’ Donuts Center in Rhode Island, at one point fighting out in the crowd and at another, scrapping up and down the entrance ramp.

It was a physical confrontation, with neither woman wanting to utter the words that would end the match. Rousey eventually locked Flair into an armbar through a steel chair, leading to The Queen quitting. It was later reported by Kayla Braxton of WWE during a backstage segment that
