WhatsApp is likely to bring a new dedicated edit button for texts soon. The messaging app is testing the feature on the beta version of the app. Currently, it does not have a dedicated edit option and hence, once the text is sent it can only be deleted, not edited. However, once the new feature is rolled out, users would be able to edit texts even after sending them. The feature has been spotted by the WhatsApp development tracker Wabetainfo. The app was reported working on an “edit” feature back in 2017 only, however, discarded it soon after it was reported on Twitter. But now it seems like WhatsApp hasn’t completely given up on it as it contemplated working on the edit feature all over again.
As per the details shared by Wabetainfo, users will be given an option to edit text after they’ve sent them by long-pressing on the text. After that it will pop up a menu that includes a dedicated edit option alongside the existing info and copy. One can then select, edit and correct any typo or spelling error in the message that has already been sent. Current setup only allows users to delete the message for both sender as well receivers within a certain time frame. You can not unsend a text or edit it. “WhatsApp is developing a new option that will let us edit text messages, so we will finally be able to fix any typo after sending a message!”, said the report

Also, there might be a time window to let people edit their messages, however, it is unclear at the moment. The feature is only available on WhatsApp
