Swapping one mobile operating system for another can be stressful, even for the most tech-savvy smartphone users. But WhatsApp wants to ease your anxieties with its upcoming migration feature.
As noted by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp iOS beta release features the option to transfer your chat history from Android to iOS. You'll need to give permission to restore chats and download Apple's Move to iOS app as part of the transfer process.
"Unfortunately, this feature is not available right now, and supported operating systems are unknown," WABetaInfo reported, offering no further details of when we can expect a release. WhatsApp in September revealed it was working with Apple and Android to transfer messages, photos, and videos between certain phone models—starting with Samsung-branded handsets, then iOS devices.
In a separate article published over the weekend, WABetaInfo tipped a two-step verification feature for WhatsApp desktop and web clients. Expected in a future update, the security tool lets users create a personal pin for account entry. Then, any time you log in via a computer or online, you'll need to enter that code, plus a six-digit pin sent by WhatsApp to your phone. It appears the feature will be opt-in, so you can disable two-step verification, if necessary. Though it's safest to keep it turned on, just in case.
