Snapchat users often see a yellow dot on the app, but what does it mean? Originally released in 2011 as an ephemeral messaging app, Snapchat has grown exponentially over the past decade to become one of the most popular social media apps in the world. For all these years, the service was only available as a mobile app on Android and iOS, but Snap recently launched a web app that allows users to send messages and make video calls from their desktop. The web app, however, is only available to premium subscribers, and in a handful of markets.
Snapchat's premium version was launched in late June and promises to offer «exclusive, experimental, and pre-release features» to subscribers for $3.99 per month. While Snapchat+ is only available in a few countries at launch, the company says that it will eventually be rolled out globally. Some of the exclusive features available to Snapchat+ subscribers include the ability to pin a friend to the top of their chat history as a 'BFF,' see who rewatched a story, Friend Solar Systems, and Ghost Trails.

A yellow dot often appears on a user's profile icon at the top-left corner of the app's home screen. It means that there's a notification, either on a Story that was posted, or because that user got a friend request from someone. The notification can also be about an available app update. To make the dot disappear, users can simply tap on the profile icon or the Bitmoji on the Snapchat camera screen and view the notification. Once all the unread notifications are viewed, the yellow dot will disappear automatically. If it doesn't, close the app, clear it from the phone's recent apps, and then reopen it again to get rid of the dot.
