Waze is targeting children of the 1970s, 80s, and 90s with a new Retro Mode.
Take a trip down memory lane with voices, vehicles, and moods from each bygone decade. (Yes, the 90s are now considered nostalgic.) "Retro Mode celebrates personalities and trends from the years most firmly cemented in today's pop culture," Waze says.
1970s: Grab your bell bottoms and butterfly collars and relive the Me Decade with an "eccentric" radio DJ navigator, flower-power bus, and lava lamp mood.
1980s: You won't get buns of steel by sitting in a car. But Waze can transport you to the amped-up 80s with an aerobics instructor host, racing-striped sports car, and boombox mood.
1990s: Get where you're going in 90s style with a fly pop star guide, classic two-door SUV4EVA, and desktop PC mood.
Waze's new driving experience is available globally through mid-May in English, French, and Portuguese. Access any of the decades features by visiting Settings > Voice & Sound > Waze Voice, or Settings > Map Display > Car Icon.
For a fully immersive experience, sync your Waze audio player with TuneIn to dial up stations like Hit Music '70s in the UK, '80s Alive in France, and '90s Hits in the US and Canada.
Google-owned Waze is no stranger to themed co-pilots. Last year, it invited Ryder and his PAW Patrol crew of search-and-rescue dogs to guide users to their destination. And, in an effort to combat the negative effects of driving, it teamed up with online healthcare provider Headspace to help motorists "learn how to find more joy and meaning on the road."
