Sony Pictures has announced sequels to some of its biggest franchises. A third Venom movie and a sequel to Ghostbusters: Afterlife are now in the works, the company said during CinemaCon, according to Variety.
The Venom films, while not necessarily adored by critics, have proven to be box office smashes. 2018's Venom made more than $850 million worldwide, while the 2021 sequel Let There Be Carnage pulled in more than $500 million globally, pushing the franchise beyond $1.3 billion.
As for Ghostbusters, 2021's Ghostbusters: Afterlife was a more modest-sized success, banking about $200 million globally.
Sony Pictures shared no information about either sequel beyond confirming their existence. Presumably Tom Hardy will return to play Eddie Brock/Venom once again in Venom 3. As for the Ghostbusters sequel, there are plenty of places it could go after the reboot, but we'll have to wait a bit longer to find out the specifics.
Sony Pictures made a number of big announcements at CinemaCon. Outside of Venom 3 and the next Ghostbusters, Sony Pictures announced a new Spider-Man spinoff movie, El Muerto, and confirmed more details on Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse and its sequel.
