Half-Life is getting a rogue-lite game thanks to fans - it's called Codename: Loop, a top-down twin-stick shooter set in the Black Mesa facility, drawing from the original's art and models. And now it's making its way to Steam, meaning you'll be able to pick it up and slot it in your library alongside Valve's official Half-Life games.
Codename: Loop comes from Daniel Almenara and while it doesn't have a release date yet, we do have plenty of screenshots and clips to tie us over. You can see Gordon's old pixelated model in the original firing range, testing out the new shooting mechanics, or you can watch him gun down some rogue voritgaunts and headcrab zombies wreaking havoc in the facility itself.

"A few months ago I asked Valve for permission to publish my Half-Life fan game on Steam and... guess what?," Almenara tweeted. "Codename: Loop is coming to Steam, hopefully with a demo later this year! The game will be completely free."
It was originally called Half-Life: Loop, given that its built on the back of the original '90s FPS, but to get it on Steam, Almenara had to drop the prefix altogether, renaming it to Codename: Loop. It's not the first Codename Half-Life, regardless - there was a 2D side-scroller made for April Fool's Day ahead of Half-Life 2's launch called Codename: Gordon.
It's also not the first time that a fan-made Half-Life game has had to alter its name to get launched on Steam. Black Mesa, originally Black Mesa Source, had to drop the 'Source' part for its own launch.
