Ubisoft won’t be at Summer Game Fest or have its own not-E3 event

If you’re hoping for news on a new Assassin’s Creed or Far Cry it doesn’t seem like you’re going to get it this summer from Ubisoft.

This will be the third June without an E3 event, what was previously the biggest gaming expo of the year, and while some publishers – most notably Microsoft – are going ahead with their own showcases at roughly the same time that’s not true for everyone, including Ubisoft.

Previously, Ubisoft used to make a big effort for E3, saving up lots of new announcements for the expo, and last year they had their Ubisoft Forward online equivalent, but that won’t be happening this year.

Ubisoft has confirmed that they won’t be having any event until ‘later this year’ and they also won’t be taking part in the Summer Game Fest online expo, which has become the closest thing to a new E3.

Although Ubisoft hasn’t formally said they’re not going to be part of Summer Game Fest, which is organised by The Games Award host Geoff Keighley, they’re not in a list of attending publishers.

That’s despite the fact that the event does involve over 30 other companies, including major publishers such as Take-Two, Activision, Atlus, Bandai Namco, Capcom, Deep Silver, Devolver Digital, EA, Epic Games, Focus Entertainment, PlayStation, Sega, Square Enix, Steam, Warner Bros., and Xbox.

Apart from Nintendo, Ubisoft are the only major omission and although they haven’t announced anything yet Nintendo is expected to have their usual E3 adjacent Nintendo Direct in early June.

There’s nothing particularly scandalous about Ubisoft’s lack of involvement, as it and the lack of Ubisoft Forward points to one simple fact: they don’t have anything new ready at the moment.
