Tunic is an indie game that's generated quite a bit of buzz ever since it was first revealed, with fans praising its art style and Zelda-style gameplay. Tunic recently launched to rave reviews, and so it seems that the game has lived up to the hype. However, there is a discrepancy between the game's aggregate critic score and its user score, with Tunic's Metacritic page being flooded with negative user reviews for a couple of strange reasons.
Right now, the Tunic Metacritic scores are 85 and 86 on PC and Xbox Series X, respectively, and while there's no overall score for the Xbox One version, its only two reviews are positive. In contrast, the user scores for Tunic are 7.3 on PC, 7.4 on Xbox Series X, and a bleak 5.7 on Xbox One. As tends to happen with many new game releases, Tunic is being hit with dozens of overly-negative user reviews that are seemingly just there to drag down its overall user score.
Tunic Gives Off Serious Legend of Zelda Vibes
Looking through the negative Tunic user reviews, there are two main complaints. The first complaint is that Tunic is too much like Zelda, with users describing it as a «rip off» of Nintendo's popular franchise. Tunic has never made its Zelda inspirations secret, so knocking the game for being what it was advertised to be is a bit strange.
The other main complaint centers around Tunic's difficulty, as the game is known to be quite challenging. While it has taken plenty of inspiration from The Legend of Zelda, Tunic also borrows from Dark Souls, and this is reflected in the game's high difficulty.
