Nintendo’s Switch Online service has seen some pretty hefty improvements over the past year. Between Nintendo 64 and Sega Genesis consoles making their way onto the Switch Online Expansion Pass and older classics like Earthbound being playable for the first time in years, there is a surprising amount of value in the console’s online offering. Now it looks like it might get even better for fans of retro gaming.
According to Twitter user Trash Bandicoot, some of Nintendo’s most beloved handheld consoles could finally be coming home in the near future. Dataminers, ever hard at work, dug into some of the code for the Switch and found emulators for the Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advanced generations of consoles. The leak lines up with rumors that have been circulating for some time among fans and represents the next logical step for Nintendo in their quest to make the Switch the most attractive console of the generation.
Games like The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap, Metroid: Zero Mission, and Golden Sun: The Lost Age were among the titles that were found in the data, meaning they could potentially be coming to the Nintendo Switch as part of this emulator service. However, as with any leak, it is important to note that these things can change quickly. No timescale for the emulator’s release was mentioned, nor has Nintendo offered any clarification yet.
