The Total War franchise has allowed players to control epic battles, commanding anything from medieval knights to roman legionnaires. However, Total War Warhammer has proven to perhaps be the most popular series as it combined the popular setting of Warhammer Fantasy with the in-depth mechanics Total War fans will be used to. As of 2022, Total War Warhammer 2 is the best-selling Total War title. Even with Total War Warhammer being so popular, fans found the third game in the series to be somewhat lackluster.
While there were plenty of things to like about Total War Warhammer 3, there were also multiple problems with the game. Bugs sometimes caused the game to crash when loading into battles, and some factions such as the Ogre Kingdoms had units that were vastly over performing in comparison to their price point. There have been hotfixes released for Total War Warhammer 3 that have fixed the game's major problems, but fans have still found plenty of things that the latest entry in the franchise feels like it's missing.

Patch 1.2 is the second attempt at making Total War Warhammer 3 a thoroughly enjoyable experience. It brings balance changes to the Auto-Resolve formula, meaning that it will now assess battles based on the Battle difficulty of a game and not its Campaign difficulty. The AI will also no longer seek to destroy the player as a major priority, meaning that if someone is playing the Seducers of Slaanesh faction way off in the Chaos Wastes, a random Western Provinces army won't show up after trekking through miles upon miles of hostile territory.
